Truck-Train Crash Closes Hayward Ave. in Kitchener
Kitchner Ontario - Hayward Avenue is expected to remain
closed until mid-afternoon following a morning collision between a truck and a train.
A refrigerated delivery truck, carrying a load of cakes, was travelling towards Courtland Avenue across the tracks when it was struck
broadside by the slow-moving freight train.
The male truck driver was not injured in the 11:20 a.m. crash.
The impact pushed the truck several metres off the road, where it came to rest after knocking down a set of railway warning lights.
Firefighters shored up the leaning truck to stabilize it.
"All indications are that the lights were working at the time," said Waterloo regional police Const. Darrin Wise.
Police and officials from Canadian Pacific Railway are continuing their investigation.
