County Offers Support on Roundhouse Matter
Kentville Nova Scotia - In response to a letter from Nova
Scotia Railway Heritage Society president Jay Underwood sent to mayors and wardens in western Nova Scotia, Kings County council's
committee of the whole has approved two motions in support of preserving heritage.
In his letter regarding the decision of Kentville council to demolish the old railway roundhouse, Underwood wrote that a railway
museum, as a component of multiple uses for the building, could serve as a useful tourism resource for the region and serve to direct
visitors to neighbouring municipalities. He said regional support for this project, both financially and in the form of donations of
items for display in a museum, is critical to the success of their proposal.
Coun. Madonna Spinazola moved to send a resolution to the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities to find a way to partner with the
province in support of heritage preservation in general. She moved also to have a letter sent to Kentville Mayor Dave Corkum, copied
to the Kings Community Economic Development Agency, offering the county's support and any in-kind assistance they could
provide to find funding sources to save the roundhouse. The motions carried.
