Transport Canada Orders CP Rail to Do Extensive Brake Check After Deadly Wreck
Transport Canada has issued a safety order for CP Rail after an
engineer was killed in a train wreck in Trail, B.C.
Fifty-one-year-old Lonnie Plasko died a hero after telling his two co-workers to jump to safety while the CP
train careened down the steep tracks towards the Teck Cominco operation.
Transport Canada's Rod Nelson says the agency order for CP to do a more extensive brake test at the top of the steep hill was issued
days after the 24 Apr 2007 accident.
Plasko's body was found underneath the wreckage the day after the crash.
Both Transport Canada and the Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the crash.
Plasko had been with CP almost 25 years.
