Rail Worker Injured at Domtar Pulp Mill
Kamloops British Columbia - A CP Rail worker was struck in
the face and taken to hospital Monday after an accident at Domtar Corp.'s Kamloops pulp mill.
The woman was treated by Domtar first aid staff and transported by ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.
A Domtar official said CP Rail is overseeing the aftermath of the incident, which occurred about 11 a.m. while the worker was coupling
or uncoupling cars outside the mill.
"CP Rail is handling the accident investigation," said Bonny Skene. "We'll make sure any learning applicable to our site
is shared."
A representative with CP Rail could not be reached Monday. No other details of the accident or injury were released by B.C. Ambulance
Service or WorkSafeBC.
Scott McCloy, a spokesman with WorkSafeBC, said it is unclear whether the agency will investigate the accident. Rail safety normally is
a federal concern and is not handled by WorkSafeBC.
"We have officials looking into it to see if it's our jurisdiction."
Despite the federal jurisdiction, injured workers receive compensation from WorkSafeBC.
