Council Can't Stop Leon's Roundhouse Deal
Leon's Roundhouse at John Street in
Toronto.
Toronto Ontario - The train has left the station, and it's
carrying Leon's furniture.
That's what City Councillor Adam Vaughan said yesterday, moments before withdrawing a motion at city hall that effectively called for
a freeze on any negotiations or agreements on the issue of the furniture retailer moving into the historic Roundhouse.
Agreements have already been signed and there's nothing the city can do to stop that, he conceded.
"We now have to wait and see what kind of sensitivities Leon's displays. They've assured me they're going to be sensitive. I hope
they are," he said.
Steam Whistle Brewery, already operating in the roundhouse, had put forward a $10 million proposal that called for a large rail museum
and no Leon's. Under the Leon's plan, a smaller rail museum will be built.
