Cambridge Ontario - A man visiting from Europe was
airlifted to hospital last week after colliding with a freight train near Bond Street in Cambridge.
Regional police are actively investigating after the 70-year-old man drove his vehicle over a set of CP Rail tracks and
his 1998 Chevrolet Lumina was struck by a freight train on Friday around 9:30 a.m. He was travelling southbound on Bond Street.
"It's a highly unfortunate incident," said Waterloo Regional Police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel. "I think it's important
for everyone to understand when we have rules of the road... they're there for everyone's safety."
Regional police report an eastbound freight train was approaching Bond Street and the railway lights and bells were activated and the
crossing arms were down.
