CP Signs Agreements for Capability Upgrading in I.T.
Canadian Pacific today announced agreements with IBM and Infosys
Technologies Ltd. to manage the railway's I.T. application development and support.
The agreements represent a significant corporate outsourcing initiative which will provide considerable capability and quality
enhancement. The multi-year agreements will focus on the application development associated with management and
maintenance of CP's operations.
"Through the "Bestshoring" initiative, CP will realize greater yield on our I.T. investment," said Kathryn McQuade,
Executive VP and COO of CPR. "With the global best practices utilized by these two firms, we expect premium quality in the support
of our current applications and in the development of those aimed at leveraging CP's core competency: efficient railway
operations."
These deals also represent a major shift in focus for CP's in house I.T. group. Now that the day to day mechanics of supporting and
developing applications are outsourced, internal staff can utilize their understanding of the railway to put greater focus on CP's
ability to leverage technology to meet the needs of today and tomorrow.
"In the past, our I.T. group was viewed as a service provider to the rest of the business," noted McQuade. "Going
forward, our I.T. group will be a strategic partner within the business to help us get the most out of our application environment
and provide us with direction and insights for the future."
