Man Survives After Being Hit by Train
Calgary Alberta - Police say a man is fighting for his
life after being struck by a train early yesterday.
Insp. Kevan Stuart said the engineer on a CP Rail train saw the man on the tracks about 3 a.m., but was unable to stop in time.
The accident occurred on a stretch along the train tracks, about 50 metres south of the Heritage LRT station.
Stuart said the slow-moving train was travelling about 25 to 30 km/h when it hit the man.
"We don't know why he was there", he said.
The man, said to be in his 20s, suffered critical head injuries and was treated by paramedics while being taken to Foothills hospital
in life-threatening condition.
Police said they have not ruled out alcohol as a factor and said the man may have been sleeping on the tracks when he was struck.
CP Rail is investigating.
