CAW Approves Strike Mandate for Canadian Pacific Railway Workers
The Canadian Auto Workers union voted overwhelmingly in favour of
a strike mandate late Friday for 2,500 shop craft workers at Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. if deal cannot be met by
29 Jan 2008.
The two sides have been in discussions since September, but they still remain far from reaching an agreement, the CAW said.
"With CP having years of record breaking profits, we feel it's time for CP to come to the table and give members their just reward
for their years of hard work," said CAW Local 101 president Tom Murphy, in a statement Friday.
CAW members at the railway voted 85% in favour of the strike mandate, but the union insists members will work right to the deadline and
are committed to coming to a settlement without a work stoppage.
