CP's New Winter Olympic GEVO's
Floods British Columbia - The first two of the newest
ES44AC Gevo's delivered to CPR to make it to the west coast arrived on Sunday, 27 Jan 2008.
Engines 8868 and 8869 were in charge of CP train 101-22 as it made its way down the Fraser River Canyon and into the
Fraser Valley late in the day.
You may be asking why a train that left Toronto on 22 Jan 2008 has taken five days to get to it's destination?
A major derailment on the Nipigon Sub along Lake Superior near Pays Plat, Ontario, on 21 Jan 2008 stranded several trains
with these new units on their way west.
Coming in the next 24 hours are eight more units on four trains including 101-21, 177-27, and
105-20.
In all 18 units from this new order will come with the factory applied Olympic Sash. Previously delivered units 8858 and 8859 already
carry this same logo.
As an official sponsor of the 2010 Winter Olympics being held in Vancouver/Whistler, B.C., CP will carry this logo on these units for
at least the next two yeras.
In keeping with Canada's two official languages the logos are in English on the engineer's side and French on the conductor's
side.
