Driver Crashes Through Rail Barrier
Cochrane Alberta - A Cochrane man is charged with leaving
the scene of an accident and driving through an extended railway crossing barrier after smashing through the railway crossing arm at
5th Ave. last weekend.
On Saturday, 26 Jan 2008 at 3:30 p.m., Robert Swiatkiewicz, 19, was seen by witnesses and the train crew driving through
the closed railway crossing seconds before the train went through.
The car was then seen leaving the area.
RCMP responded and tracked the vehicle's license plate to the owner's residence, where it was found parked in the garage.
The driver was located and admitted to having driven through the barrier due to being distracted by another vehicle and having the sun
in his eyes. He said that he then panicked and left the scene.
