Senior Escapes Unscathed After Run in with Train West of Town
Cochrane Alberta - A man was sent to the Foothills
Hospital in stable non-life threatening condition after having a run in with a train in the Cochrane area on Thursday,
24 Jan 2008.
"The man was taken to the hospital for assessment but no true injuries were found," said Cochrane Fire Station Officer Martin
Reuter.
A 65-year-old man encountered the train three miles southeast of the West Pointe Estates, running into the side of it
while on foot.
Reuter said that the secluded location made the rescue difficult.
"It was very hard to access the patient," said Reuter.
"We had to bring a train in from Calgary to meet the paramedics at George Fox Trail and work our way into the area.
"The train then took the emergency crews in to the man."
He added that Stars Air Ambulance was not available to help in the incident because of foggy weather conditions.
"It was a real benefit for us to have the vehicle come out of Calgary and shuttle the paramedics in," said Reuter.
"It took a while to find our way in there but it would have been much longer without the help."
Two fire apparatus and one medic unit attended the scene at approximately 2:42 a.m. and the rescue was completed by 5:30 a.m.
The man was not a Cochrane resident and it is not known why he was near the tracks.
