No Notice Necessary, CPR Tells Mayo Clinic
Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. says it would be counterproductive
to provide advance notice of when it plans to transport hazardous materials near the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.
The Calgary-based railway said in a U.S. regulatory filing that giving notice to Rochester officials would "increase
the vulnerability of those materials to terrorist or criminal attack".
CPR is seeking regulatory approval for buying Dakota Minnesota & Eastern Railroad Corp., whose tracks run near the sprawling
hospital.
"Only four carloads of hazardous materials of any kind moved through Rochester in each of the last two years", CPR
said.
