Locomotive Pieces Donated to Local Museum
Two pieces of what are believed to be parts of locomotive number
508 which tumbled into the Saint John River on 21 Jun 1900 following the collapse of the CPR railway bridge in Grand Falls
were recently donated to the Grand Falls Museum by Eric Ouellette, a professional engineer who has been spearheading the search to
locate and recover the locomotive from the bottom of the riverbed.
During his search of the riverbed in 2006, Ouellette recovered what he believes are pieces of a braking cylinder combination.
He plans to relaunch his efforts this summer in order to locate and recover the locomotive.
Jeannine Watson, member of the Grand Falls Historical Society, accepted the donated pieces on behalf of the organization which plans to
display the items in its Museum.
