Delays Expected on CP Rail Line in Town

Expect to see delays at rail crossings in town over the next
week or two as CP continues renewal work on the rail line through Cochrane.

Cochrane Alberta - Drivers can expect delays around
Cochrane's rail tracks in the coming weeks as the Canadian Pacific Railway is performing track maintenance and renewal around the town.
Work began last week to upgrade track structure and includes crossing maintenance at traffic intersections in the coming weeks which
will cause some disruptions along the rail route.
"This is scheduled track renewal and part of our ongoing commitment to meeting or exceeding federally regulated standards for rail
infrastructure," Breanne Fiegel, media relations manager for CPR said.
"Crews will be replacing rail, ties, and ballast... and is part of a larger program that will result in 30 miles of track renewed
between Calgary and Field," Fiegel said.
"We're going to be doing this work one crossing at a time," said Tim DeMarco, track maintenance supervisor for the Laggan
subdivision, servicing the Calgary area.
Crews are tentatively scheduled to renew the River Avenue crossing on 3 Jun 2008.
"It may even be closed down for the night. Then the next day, we come through and re-surface everything and make sure
the track is in good shape before we put it in," DeMarco said.
Work will begin at 11 p.m. and continue until approximately 11 a.m. the next day, DeMarco said, but cautioned that closures could last
up to 24 hours.
Work on the 4th Avenue intersection is scheduled to begin on 4 Jun 2008 and the 5th Avenue crossing on
5 Jun 2008, but is dependant on the progress of the River Avenue maintenance, DeMarco added.
"We've got all our crews working and want to make sure we get it finished with one crew without having to come back," DeMarco
said.
The new upgrades should last 10 years.
