Vintage Steam Train Coming
Train buffs, rejoice.
The Spirit of 150 Rail Tour is making its way across the province to Mission and Abbotsford for 26 Jun 2008.
The CP 2816 Empress steam locomotive and its support cars will roll to a stop in Mission at the West Coast Express station at 5:30 p.m.
The train stops in Abbotsford at Gladys Avenue [the extension of Hwy. 11] and George Ferguson Way and West Railway Street at 5:30 p.m.
later that day.
The rail tour, which is visiting 34 B.C. communities as part of the year-long BC150 celebrations that mark the province's
150 years, will include two vintage passenger coaches, a vintage business car, and a stage car.
The Royal B.C. Museum also transformed a 1958 Union Pacific baggage car into a rolling museum.
It's a traveling version of the "Free Spirit: Stories of You, Me and B.C." - an exhibition about the province's history
on display at the museum in Victoria until 11 Jan 2009.
Every visitor is invited to climb aboard the train to tour the museum car, enjoy historical vignettes performed by the BC150 Players,
and listen to live music by the Spirit of 150 band.
The tour has been running since 12 Jun 2008 and will end in Vancouver 6 Jul 2008.
