Trespassing Man Clipped by Train has Minor Injuries
Calgary Alberta - CP Rail officials say a man was
needlessly hurt when struck by a train while trespassing.
Emergency crews, who had to cut fencing to get to the victim, found the 32-year-old man injured yesterday after being hit
by a train at about 9 a.m. at 64 Ave. and Deerfoot Tr.
He sustained minor injuries, but paramedics said they were unsure if he was hurt after being clipped by the train or when he fell away
from it as a result of a near-miss, said EMS spokesman Paul Lapointe.
"He had abrasions to his legs and arms," he said. Canadian Pacific Rail spokesman Mike Lovecchio said the incident needn't
have happened.
"An incident like this is absolutely preventable," he said.
"Railway right-of-ways are extremely well marked and anyone trespassing is taking tremendous and needless
risks," adding the engineer tried to stop the train.
"But obviously a train does not stop on a dime," he said.
