DM&E Hearing Date Likely to be Set Soon
Pierre South Dakota USA - A South Dakota official says a
date will likely be set soon for a hearing on proposed land condemnation in a plan to expand the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern
Railroad.
The $6 billion expansion would handle rail shipment of Wyoming coal from the Powder River Basin, which spans the
Wyoming-Montana border.
Lawyer Bill Nevin represents the South Dakota Transportation Department. He says that within a week or so, there's likely to be a
decision on when the hearing will be held.
DM&E wants to rebuild 600 miles of existing track across South Dakota and Minnesota and add 260 miles of new track around the
southern end of South Dakota's Black Hills.
The Powder River Basin project would haul low-sulfur coal eastward to power plants.
