IC&E Derailment Closes Key Minnesota Highway
Minneapolis Minnesota USA - A well-travelled
highway in southeastern Minnesota will remain closed for many more hours today as cleanup continues after a train derailment on a
wooden bridge, authorities said.
Hwy. 26 south of Reno in Houston County was closed Tuesday after 27 cars derailed on the bridge and spilled ethanol, the State Patrol
said. No evacuations were needed, and no injuries were reported.
Hwy. 26 is the main north-south artery and runs the entire length of Houston County.
The bridge and the train are owned by the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad.
The cleanup "is expected to take at least several more days", said rail official Herb Jones.
The cause of the derailment has yet to be determined.
