Boston Bar British Columbia - Most everyone has arrived at
a train crossing at just the wrong time.
And waiting for the train to cross often results in late arrivals or missed meetings.
But you all have nothing on little Willem deKoning.
He can thank a CP Rail train for both his name and place of birth.
One just happened to be pulling through Boston Bar at the exact same time he was ready to enter the world.
Mark and Audrey deKoning had already been to their doctor on Thursday, for a regular checkup. But just after midnight,
5 Sep 2008, Audrey woke up in contractions.
The couple quickly packed up for the hospital, but by the time they arrived to the CP Rail tracks, a train was coming by. Now the
contractions were getting worse, and instead of hoping for the end of the train, they called for help over a two-way radio.
Mark called up Johnny Grimm, his partner from Alqonqin Power.
Grimms' wife, Collette then called the ambulance attendant Howard Johnson, who lives on the same side of the tracks as the expecting
couple.
But by the time everyone else arrived, little Willem had already been delivered, thanks to some quick thinking from his dad.
Family friend Cathy Harry says mom, dad, and baby are all doing fine now.
"Dad is a little shaken but is doing just fine", Harry says.
Both mom and Baby Willem, or "Box Car Willy", are now home and resting well.
