Port Moody British Columbia - What was intended as a fun
family event turned into a bizarre anti-Olympic protest in Port Moody Sunday.
Shortly after the CP Rail Spirit Train rolled into the PoMo West Coast Express station and the festivities got underway, about 30 to 50
protesters stormed the area in front of the stage, getting between the train and families who were there to see musician Colin James
perform. The protesters, shouting obscenities and anti-Olympic epithets, drowned out the people on stage and left families
confused and upset.
At some point, the protest turned into a scuffle; Port Moody Police intervened and arrested a man and a woman for assaulting an
undercover officer and a TV camera operator.
"We are here to facilitate the enjoyment of families at the Spirit Train Event... and to facilitate peaceful protest," said
acting Sgt. Phil Reid. "However, once you've crossed that line - and we do have a high tolerance because of the situation - but
once people start breaking the law, we'll take the appropriate steps."
