Big Mess, No One Hurt
Craven Saskatchewan - A 12-car train
derailment early Thursday morning near Craven left a big mess to clean up.
Mike LoVecchio, spokesman for Canadian Pacific Rail, confirmed that a dozen grain cars from a northbound train derailed just south of
Craven. No one was injured in the incident and there is no environmental risk.
However, the cars were filled with canola grain, which spilled during the derailment.
"We're going to recover that canola. We'll use a vacuum truck to do it. That's part of our cleanup process," LoVecchio said,
adding he could not say how long that process would take.
Meanwhile, further traffic on the rail line was diverted around the site to elsewhere on CP's rail network.
The derailment could be seen from Highway 20 but did not affect traffic on the roadway. LoVecchio said the cause of the derailment is
not known at this time.
He added that safety is the top priority for CP Rail, but following this incident, there was absolutely no risk to the
public.
