Teen Struck, Killed by Train
Marathon Ontario - A 17-year-old boy was
killed Saturday after being struck by a train in Marathon.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. near the town's LCBO store, about 100 metres from a controlled crossing.
The area is frequently used as a shortcut across the tracks to get to homes and an apartment building on the other side.
It is not a marked crossing.
Provincial police said in a news release the teen was travelling on a path near the tracks and was struck by the engine of a westbound
Canadian Pacific train as he attempted to cross.
The train stopped and remained on scene as emergency workers and CP Rail officials responded.
The teen was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries.
The victim's name is being withheld at his family's request, police said late Saturday.
