Regulator Sides with CPR, Stops CN in its Tracks
The Canadian Transportation Agency has ordered Canadian National
Railway Co. to halt its distribution operations at Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., after a complaint from rival Canadian Pacific Railway
Ltd.
In a decision released yesterday, the regulator said it has ordered CN to "cease and desist all railway operations" at the
"CN Transload Facility" near Edmonton, pending an environmental assessment.
"CPR, like CN, proposes significant track construction in this area", said the agency, which ruled that CN failed to file an
application to install its new tracks.
While CPR complained about CN's "unlawfully constructed railway facility", CN said it hasn't taken business away from its
rival.
