Holiday Train Rolling Into Town
Portage la Prairie Manitoba - Choo choo! The Holiday
Train is stopping in Portage la Prairie.
On 7 Dec 2008 from 5:15-5:45 p.m., the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is chugging into the city to raise
money and food for the community.
"The Holiday Train is North America's largest rolling fundraiser," said CP president and CEO Fred Green.
When the train arrives in Portage, the 2008 Canadian Country Music Association male artist of the year, Johnny Reid, and country music
hall-of-famer Tracey Brown will be performing free for the crowd.
Celebrating a decade of giving, the Holiday Train has raised $3.56 million and 1.8 million pounds of food. All the money and food
collected at each stop stays in the community.
"Unfortunately, hunger is a stubborn problem in our country," said Katharine Schmidt, executive director of Food Banks
Canada. "The Holiday Train is a brilliant example of how communities can draw together, even in challenging economic times, to
celebrate the season and generously support their local food bank."
When the Holiday Train stops in Portage, CP will provide a corporate contribution to the local food bank. The community, in turn, is
encouraged to donate food, funds or both, all of which stays here in Portage.
So, on 7 Dec 2008 at 5:15 p.m., make sure you are at 301 Third St. N.E. near Centennial Arena to take part in the 10th
anniversary of the Holiday Train. All donations made that night will go to the Salvation Army food bank in Portage to help less
fortunate members of the community during the holiday season.
