Canadian Pacific Reacts
Reactor vessel shipment via CP approaches Calgary,
Alberta.
Calgary Alberta - Canadian National isn't the only one to
move reactor vessels from Thunder Bay to Alberta.
The photo above shows a CP dimensional load train carrying reactor vessels into Alyth Yard in Calgary from the east on
15 Dec 2008.
These vessels are bound for the Shell Scotford Upgrader expansion in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta which processes heavy bitumen from the
Oil Sands.
They were constructed in Japan, and apparently freightered to Thunder Bay from where they were moved west by CP.
These loads can not make it through the tunnels west of Calgary and thus must take this longer route, as was also the case with
a similar shipment on CN recently which was bound for Fort McMurray.
