Train Blamed for Bear Scavenging
Lake Louise Grizzly bear.
Lake Louise Alberta - An environmental group says a bear
that should be hibernating is eating spilled grain instead.
Jim Pissot is with Defenders of Wildlife.
He has taken pictures of a large grizzly bear roaming the area in Banff National Park near Lake Louise.
The photos were taken 2 Dec 2008 and Pissot says it is evidence that the bear's natural instincts are being altered.
"We suspect, and bear biologists concur, that this bear is staying alive because he's attracted to grain on the tracks".
Canadian Pacific Railway says the company is spending 23 million dollars to fix its grain cars to stop
spillage.
