Man Charged With Impaired in Minivan-Train Crash
Winnipeg Manitoba - City police have released the name of an allegedly impaired man who crashed a
minivan into a train on Friday, injuring at least two people.
Stanley Mason, 45, of the northern Manitoba community of St. Theresa Point is charged with impaired driving and driving over the 0.08% blood-alcohol limit,
and has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
The Dodge Caravan was westbound on Notre Dame Avenue near Wall Street at about 10:15 a.m. when it crashed into a northbound Canadian Pacific Railway
locomotive at a crossing with operating lights and bells, but without guardrails.
The minivan sustained significant damage to its front end. Though the Winnipeg Fire Department said Friday that three passengers in the van were injured,
police said later that only two passengers, a 43-year-old man, and 27-year-old woman, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The train sustained very minor damage, a CPR spokesman said.
Ross Romaniuk.
