Port Opening Won't Lead to Immediate Increase in Train Volume
A Canadian Pacific Railway train crosses Glover Road.
Langley British Columbia - The opening of the third berth at Deltaport will not mean a sudden
increase in rail traffic through Langley.
Mike LoVecchio of Canadian Pacific Railway said Langley residents will not see any difference right away, as container traffic is currently down from
pre-recession levels.
"Over time, traffic will grow," he said, adding that plans for a series of overpasses along the rail route are designed to reduce rail-road
conflicts.
CP is "thrilled" about the opening of the new berth, he added.
Over the long term, the additional capacity at the port will mean an increase in business for the company and an increase in trains through Langley.
When plans for funding the overpasses and other road improvements were announced in 2006, projections were that rail traffic would eventually grow to 30
trains per day through Langley.
