Clean-Up Continues After Derailment
Vermilion Bay Ontario - CP Rail crews were on the scene with heavy equipment near Vermilion Bay
to clear away 17 grain cars and repair the track following a derailment 25 Jan 2010.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and there's been no risk to the neighbouring community, according to Mike LoVecchio, CP Rail's senior manager for
media relations.
The cars left the tracks around 10 a.m. Monday, but there weren't any regulated chemicals involved, LoVecchio noted. The crew of 25 staff cautiously ventured
to the site over icy roads Monday, and they've cleared the intersection at Waldhoff Road.
Since it's the main east-west link for the railway, the company hoped to have service restored as quickly as possible, but they also wanted to ensure the
safety of its workers was respected.
"We take it as it comes," he emphasized, adding the section of track will be re-inspected and certified, once work has been completed.
