Interest in Bullet Train
Banff Alberta - Banff council is letting the province know they'd like to see a high-speed
bullet train link Calgary to the mountains.
With concept plans being floated for a rail link between Calgary and Edmonton, Coun. Stavros Karlos brought up the idea last week that councillors send a
letter to the provincial government and any agencies associated with the plans for a high-speed rail line, and let them know Banff wants to be considered for
a bullet train link as well.
"It just makes sense since we're talking long, long term," Karlos said.
A train connecting Edmonton and Calgary is decades away from becoming a reality, but Karlos wanted to let provincial policy makers know, with a large
population of tourists flying into Calgary and then heading to Banff, it makes sense to consider linking the two communities.
Coun. John Gibson, who had recently returned from Europe, said while there he saw how efficient and clean rail lines were.
"I certainly believe it is the way of the future," he said.
