Grass Fire in East Transcona Put Out
Firefighters work to put out a grass fire that got very close to some parked
railway cars, including a diesel engine, along the edges of the CPR North Transcona Railyards between Springfield Road and Bluecher Road.
Winnipeg Manitoba - Fire departments from municipalities north and east of Winnipeg waged a
successful battle against a stubborn grass fire on Day Street near Gunn Road.
At one point around 7 p.m., thick smoke from the blaze could be seen from just about anywhere on the north and east sides of the city.
It was initially feared the blaze may reach some boxcars that are on rail lines in the area, but the fire was extinguished before anything was damaged.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service had one fire truck on the scene aiding departments from East St. Paul and Springfield.
