Girl, 19, Recovering from Train Accident
Pitt Meadows British Columbia - A young woman struck by a train in Pitt Meadows Sunday remains
in hospital, but will not lose any limbs, according to her sister.
The 19-year-old has been shifted out of the intensive care unit at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster and remains sedated as she recovers from serious
internal and external injuries.
The girl, according to her sister, had her spleen removed and suffered a broken leg, but will not lose it.
"She was very lucky," the sister said.
According to Ridge Meadows RCMP, the girl was struck by a freight train while walking on the railway tracks on Harris Road, near Hoffmann Park, around 4:30
a.m. She was returning home from a party, he sister said.
Police said the girl waited for one train to pass, but was hit by a second train when she decided to cross the tracks while the flashing railroad crossing
signal was activated and barriers were down.
She was airlifted to hospital.
