Trains Crash, Derail on Victoria Road Overpass in Revelstoke
Workers use a loader to lift the wheels of a derailed potash car and set it back on the tracks.
Revelstoke British Columbia - Two trains collided on the small train overpass that crosses
Victoria Road at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Although there hasn't been official confirmation, it appears that one eastbound train was stopped on the tracks, its end sitting on, or very near the
overpass, when another eastbound train came along and rear ended it.
Witnesses staying at a nearby motel say they heard a loud bang at about that time.
The following morning, one empty potash car appeared damaged in the crash. Part of one end of the car was ripped open and its wheels were laying nearby. It
was laying on its side near the tracks, but workers said they had pushed it over with heavy machinery to get it out of the way.
About a dozen other rail workers spent about an hour getting another potash car back on the track. They used a large front-end loader to lift the wheels up
and set it on the track before an engine pulled it away.
