Railroad Buffs Take in CP Station Display
The Canadian Pacific Railway station at Portage la Prairie,
Manitoba.
Portage la Prairie Manitoba - The historic Canadian Pacific Railway Station in Portage la
Prairie was a-buzz with activity on Friday, as a lively commotion of chugging and choo-chooing sounds filled the air.
Portage Model Railroad Club, under the umbrella of Portage Heritage Inc., organized a model railroad display in the building with live tracks and cars set up
at the west end of the building, and some model railroad sets and related paraphernalia for viewing, as well as CP Station memorabilia for purchase at the east
end of the facility.
Wayne Bjorlie travelled all the way from St. Paul, Minnesota, to take in the display of the Portage Model Railroad Club Train Day.
"Our purpose to come here was to watch the CN and CP trains," said the model railroad enthusiast.
"This is a nice layout..." Bjorlie noted of the CP Station exhibit. "I'm partial to Canadian Pacific and I see this and I am pleased. Someone
gave me a copy of Model Railroader magazine back in 1988. I got hooked on it then. I have been buying engines, cars, and building kits since then."
The event was also an opportunity to see the developments of the renovations of the CP Station, which is to open as an Interpretive Centre when complete.
