Highway 2A Remains Closed for Track Repairs
A Canadian Pacific Railway repair crew was hard at work Tuesday after a
train derailment south of Red Deer early Tuesday morning.
Red Deer Alberta - A short section of Highway 2A south of Red Deer remains closed to accommodate
repairs on the adjacent railway tracks.
Canadian Pacific Railway trains are moving through the area immediately west of Gasoline Alley today, but motorists are still being diverted around the section
of highway between McKenzie Road and Lantern Avenue, said Russ Watts, operations manager for Alberta Transportation in Red Deer.
Watts said on Thursday morning that, following discussions with CPR officials on Wednesday, it was decided to keep the road closed for the time being.
The road was closed and an emergency access road built on Tuesday following the derailment of a locomotive and five tank cars that had been at the end of a
southbound train.
