CP Train Collides with Truck Near Winnipeg
Winnipeg Manitoba - A home was evacuated and a man sent to hospital after a Canadian Pacific
Railway freight train and garbage truck collided south of Winnipeg.
The crash happened just after 7 a.m. CT Monday at an uncontrolled crossing on Leclaire Road, just east of Highway 200 in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot,
about 15 kilometres south of the city.
The crash caused about 12 train cars to derail. The train had some empty cars but was also hauling sulphur and sulphuric acid, RCMP said.
None of the dangerous goods leaked but some diesel fuel did.
The driver of the garbage truck, a 43-year-old man from Oakbank, Man., was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
A house in the area was evacuated and an environmental impact is being done, said RCMP.
The collision is being investigated by RCMP with assistance from the Canadian Pacific Police Service (CPPS), a private police force enforcing safety and
policing along Canadian Pacific Railway properties and rail lines.
Leclaire Road is currently closed to traffic around the collision scene.
