Airdrie Alberta - A Canadian Pacific Railway train carrying anhydrous ammonia derailed near Calgary Tuesday but none of the dangerous agricultural chemical spilled in the accident, the company said.

The 101-car train derailed near Airdrie, a bedroom community north of Calgary, forcing one nearby resident to evacuate, CP Rail spokesman Mark Seland said.

It is not known how long the derailed cars will block the railway's line between Calgary and Edmonton.

"They are just working now to develop plans for transloading the materials off the tankers," Seland said.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Constable Robert Frizzell said it could take about 24 hours for crews to clean up the site, which he estimated was 5-10 km (3-6 miles) north of Airdrie.
