Mother, Daughter Escape Unscathed as Car Hits Train
London Ontario - A mother and daughter escaped with minor injuries after the car they were in
slammed into a freight train southwest of London.
Middlesex OPP said the car the 46-year-old St. Clair Township woman was driving hit the train at the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing on Dundonald Rd. shortly
before 8 a.m.
Police said the car passed flashing lights at the crossing and crashed through the crossing arm before hitting the train.
The driver is charged with failing to stop for a railway crossing signal.
Firefighters were called to the scene to free the woman and her 22-year-old daughter. Taken to Four Counties Hospital with injuries not considered
life-threatening, they were later released.
There was heavy fog in the area at the time, police said, noting there was a second crash at the same location moments later when a car making a three-point
turn was struck by another car as it went over the tracks after the train cleared the area. There were no injuries in the second crash.
The train did not stop.
"Motorists are reminded to drive with extra care and attention, especially when driving in heavy fog conditions," said Const. Liz Melvin.
