Pedestrian, 59, Hit by Train in Chelmsford
Chelmsford Ontario - A 59-year-old male pedestrian was hit by a train in Chelmsford on Thursday
morning, Greater Sudbury Police said.
Police say the crash happened about 10:10 a.m. in the area of Errington and Sauve avenues.
The man was walking northbound when he was hit by a westbound train, police said.
The area was closed to traffic for a few hours while police investigated. The train was stopped on the tracks and several police officers were walking up and
down the tracks. Police cruisers, railway vehicles, and a forensics van were on the scene.
Chelmsford resident Betty Arseneau was one of about a dozen local residents who gathered to watch police investigate.
"I saw the train stopped. There was an ambulance here when I got here about 10:40 a.m.," she said.
It's not the first time she has heard of someone being hit in the area.
Maurice Rodrigue, 56, who lives above the Algoma Tavern overlooking the tracks, said it's the fourth or fifth time he can remember someone being hit.
"I've lived her all my life," he said.
He said he isn't concerned about safety, adding a lot of the time people are committing suicide.
"The barricades go down, the lights are working," he said.
The investigation is continuing and police are in the process of notifying the man's family.
