Train Horns Silenced by Ontario Town
Tecumseh Ontario - Residents near the Canadian Pacific Railway crossing at Lesperance Road in
Tecumseh, Ontario, will soon get some relief from train horns, after years of complaints.
Town council passed the necessary bylaw Tuesday night prohibiting locomotive horn blasts at the crossing.
Residents of the town east of Windsor had complained for years the horns were keeping them up at night.
"A lot of peace and quiet... this is a big victory", said Ron Hartigan, a resident who has been leading the campaign to get an anti-whistling bylaw
passed.
The new bylaw will be sent to CP, which will instruct engineers to stop blowing horns near the crossing.
However, they will still be free to sound a warning when they believe it necessary, such as if they see a trespasser on the tracks, or the automatic arms at
the level crossing aren't working.
