Lethbridge Alberta - Canadian Pacific recently transported its heaviest-ever dimensional cargo
via a direct, single-line move from the Port of Duluth-Superior in northern Minnesota to western Canada.
The Class I moved two German-made, 300-ton dimensional transformers, which arrived from Rotterdam at a Duluth terminal on 5 Nov 2010.
A nine-car train, which included one 20-axle and one 16-axle car, left Duluth 9 Nov 2010 to travel 1,200 miles to Lethbridge, Alberta, where the transformers
will be installed and eventually power the Montana Alberta Tie Line.
Two years ago, CP upgraded bridges in Minneapolis-St. Paul to accommodate the movement of oversized/dimensional cargo through Duluth.
The Port of Duluth handles dimensional freight for a number of energy-related projects, including nearly 1 million freight tons of wind turbine components that
have been delivered to several countries, including the United States and Canada, port officials said in a prepared statement.
