Train Kills Man in Southern Alberta
Monarch Alberta - An 83-year-old man was killed when his truck was struck by an eastbound train
as he attempted to cross the railway tracks to gain access to Highway 3A near Monarch on Wednesday.
Lethbridge RCMP responded to the crash and Emergency Medical Services transported August Le Quennec of Monarch, the lone occupant of the Ford F150 travelling
south on Range Road 235 about 4 p.m., to Lethbridge Hospital.
However, he died later.
Const. Ciprian Ciubotariu of Lethbridge RCMP said the victim's age "was one of the factors that may have contributed to him not seeing the crossing."
"It was a controlled crossing, with no lights, and was highly visible on a flat plain," said Ciubotariu.
"You can see it for a very long distance."
The collision is still under investigation.
Monarch is located about 25 kilometres northwest of Lethbridge.
