Wheat Board Meets With CP Rail
Moose Jaw Saskatchewan - When it comes to how CN and CP Rail are handling prairie grain
shipments, the Canadian Wheat Board says the story couldn't be more different.
"CP Rail is 25 percent behind last year in terms of total grain shipments. We have to catch up by the end of the year to get back on track," says
Ward Weisensel, Chief Operating Officer.
"We have been meeting with CP regularly to outline our concerns, but more importantly, we can't turn back the clock in terms of what has happened. We're
focused on what we need from now until the end of the year and going forward to do the job that has to be done."
CWB and CP officials continue to discuss their concerns. While there have been some weather-related issues, Weisensel says CN grain movement to date is up over
last year.
Last week, the Western Grain Elevator Association reported that since August of last year, less than 30 percent of Canadian Pacific Railway car orders have
either arrived, or arrived on time.
