Boy 8 Struck by Train in Regina
Regina Saskatchwan - An 8-year-old boy playing near some railway tracks was struck by a train
and seriously injured, police in Regina say.
Police said a 911 came in shortly after 7 p.m. CST Friday and emergency crews were dispatched to railway tracks near the 600 block of Garnet Street.
"Apparently a couple of young boys were playing by the train tracks and as an oncoming train was passing one of the boys was struck by the train,"
police said in a news release.
They reported that the boy suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries.
There was no other information about what happened.
People in the area told CBC News Friday night that they had seen a group of boys playing near the tracks earlier in the day, but did not see what happened that
night.
Area residents say the tracks should be fenced off. Donald Obey said he even yelled at the boys to stay away from the tracks, which are not behind any fencing.
"It's an everyday thing with the kids," Obey said. "You know, constantly playing on the tracks, and we always have to constantly tell them to
stay away from the tracks, [that] it's a dangerous place. Now they can see why."
Obey said the tracks are so close to a residential area they should be fenced off.
Police said they had blocked off the area and were continuing to investigate.
