Name Chosen for Locomotive

Summerland British Columbia - In a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, train enthusiasts had the chance to help name the Kettle Valley Steam Railway's steam locomotive, the 3716.
 
The Kettle Valley Steam Railway will be featured in an upcoming fall series on History Television called "Name This".
 
Marble Media, a documentary production company based in Toronto, is developing the series which is about names, how people, places, and things, get their names.
 
"We are very pleased to have been chosen by the producers to participate in this national television show," says Ron Restrick, KVSR General Manager.
 
"There are a large number of creative names to choose from and they will be short-listed to five by a jury" said Restrick. "We want a name that evokes 3716's proud heritage and importance to the Okanagan Valley."
 
Over the last few months, hundreds of names have been submitted and the winning name will be revealed on Sunday, 8 May 2011.
 
On Saturday, 7 May 2011, at 1:30 p.m. the train, fully booked with local extras, will depart Prairie Valley Station to film a train robbery event featuring the Garnett Valley Gang. On Sunday, 8 May 2011, the public is invited to attend a concert by renowned Canadian singer, songwriter Matt Mays who will perform from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Prairie Valley Station.
 
3716's official new name will be revealed following the concert.
