Donation to Help with CPR Station Repairs
Owen Sound Ontario - Owen Sound is to receive a $50,000 donation from an anonymous donor to help it fix up the city-owned former
Canadian Pacific Railway station near the east harbour wall.
The donation was given to the Ontario Heritage Trust in Toronto to be used to fund work at the old train station.
"This funding is intended to assist in the cost of repairing the roof and associated building envelope of the building and will help further the
partnership established between the City of Owen Sound and the Trust through (a heritage conservation) easement agreement," says a 15 Apr 2011 letter to
the city from the Ontario Heritage Trust, an agency of the Government of Ontario.
Owen Sound bought the vacant train station and its property for $153,500 in May 2010.
The city is seeking proposals from developers interested in transforming the 1940s-era station into a business.
Pam Coulter, the city's director of community services, said roughly $100,000 will be available to repair and improve the building, thanks to the $50,000
donation.
