CP Rail Train Catches Fire
Saskatoon Saskatchewan - A Canadian Pacific Railway train heading to Saskatoon caught fire Monday just outside of the city.
The second of two engines pulling the train, which was hauling 85 cars of grain, caught fire about nine kilometres west of Saskatoon along Highway 14, said CPR
spokesperson Kevin Hrysak.
At about 2 p.m., CPR employees noticed flames in the engine room of the second unit. Employees immediately extinguished the flames.
"It was a small fire so the crew acted fast", Hrysak said.
The Saskatoon fire department was called out to the scene, but arrived after the train crew put out the fire.
There were no reported injuries and public safety was not at risk, Hrysak said. CPR has not confirmed the cause of the fire, but suspects it was a mechanical
problem.
The train continued into Saskatoon where the second engine was disconnected and moved aside for inspection, Hrysak said.
