Railway Work Set for the Weekend
Toronto Ontario - Construction work will take place on Metrolinx's West Toronto Diamond Grade Separation project this weekend in the
Junction.
The rail infrastructure project serves to eliminate a major bottle neck at the most heavily used rail crossing in Canada, according to the provincial
transportation agency. When completed, GO trains on the Georgetown line will pass below CP Rail freight lines thus improving service reliability, reducing
noise, while allowing for future service improvements in an effort to reduce congestion in the northwest of the city.
Work to install small diameter piles (micropiles) to support temporary bridge spans will be installed over the following three weekends (24 and 25 Sep 2011,
1 and 2 Oct 2011, 15 and 16 Oct 2011). The majority of work will take place between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., however, construction crews will be on site until 9 p.m.
Micropile installation produces low noise levels with little to no vibration. Metrolinx has distributed a construction notice about the weekend work to the
community.
