College Avenue Bridge Opens After 3 Years
Windsor Ontario - The College Avenue bridge is slated to reopen early next week.
It's been closed to traffic for nearly three years.
The original bridge was more than 80-years-old and was closed due to safety concerns.
City engineer Mark Winkerton says the project came in on time and approximately $100,000 under the $1.5-million budget.
While the new bridge is built to last, its days may already be numbered because CP Railway is considering the construction of a double-decker rail line under
the bridge.
If that comes to fruition, the bridge will have to be deconstructed and rebuilt to accommodate the higher rail cars.
The city says CP plans to issue a report in 2012 about whether it will proceed with the new tunnel.
